Barry grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He received his undergraduate degree in 1966 from Principia College, in Elsah, Illinois near St. Louis. In 1975, he received his MBA with emphasis in real estate and finance from The University of British Columbia.

He and his wife, Deborah, have lived in suburban St. Louis since 2005. Their combined family includes six adult children and eight grandchildren, scattered from the Seattle area to Long Beach, CA to Dallas, TX to Missoula, MT, to Iowa City, IA and to Metro St. Louis, MO.

He is an active member of the Rotary Club of West St. Louis County. The Rotary Motto of “Service Before Self” is his defining business motivation.

Barry invested in his first real estate in the late 1960s in British Columbia. In the following years, he gained valuable experience in commercial development, finance and brokerage, mostly in the Pacific Northwest. In his development career, he originated development volume in excess of $350 million. Projects included some of the first self-storage complexes in the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada, suburban office buildings, business parks, high tech buildings, industrial warehouses, retail centers, car care centers, mixed use [office retail], apartments, condominiums, and free-standing NNN leased buildings.


Today, through his company, Metro Property Advisors LLC, Barry is a licensed real estate broker in Missouri. He is no longer actively representing clients in transactions, but is acting as an advisor to individuals and companies in distressed circumstances and to those evaluating real estate investment opportunities.

Since the peak of the real estate crisis in 2009-2010, Barry, through Metro Property Advisors LLC dba Short Sale Specialists USA, has provided contingent fee-based short sale negotiation services. He acts as a fiduciary, representing the Seller’s best interests. He has helped hundreds of clients gain their freedom from onerous financial and property entanglements.

The Real Estate Collaborative LLC facilitates a St. Louis-area community of exceptional, ethical real estate industry professionals and service providers who desire to share and help each other prosper, grow professionally, and meet like-minded people.

The successful activities include quarterly catered breakfast seminars, featuring valuable panel discussions and networking. The events are held at The Lodge Des Peres in Des Peres, MO, with a focus on realtors and investors. These events have been moderated by Barry and others and hosted by Barry and his wife, Deborah, since 2013.

The events average over 135 attendees [including a high component of realtors] and are sponsored by over 20 real estate related affiliates. The latter include mortgage lenders, title companies, and others providing services to the residential real estate community.
